How to move mattress by yourself

You may be relocating to a new home for several reasons. In fact, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), in 2017, 16.7% of people moved houses. People who are likely to move are between the ages of 20 and 29 and 30 and 39.

So, no matter the reason, you will want the whole process to be easy and quick. But when it comes to moving your mattress, it can be pretty tricky and precise, too. But not anymore! If you want to know how to move a mattress by yourself, all you need to do is follow these simple steps:

  1. Firstly, before moving, ensure that you measure the mattress dimensions. Doing so will let you know how much space you’ll require for its storage, the mattress bag size, and how to move it, too!
  2. Now that the measuring is complete, ensure that you cover the mattress adequately with a mattress bag of the correct size. This way, you will be protecting it from stains, dirt, and dust. You could also grab a plastic wrap or bubble wrap to cover the mattress. Taking the help of a friend will allow you to cover the mattress quicker.
  3. If your mattress is thin, you could fold your mattress before covering it. This way, you will be reducing its width and height, allowing you to move it quickly. If the mattress is not foldable, you can go ahead and secure it to cardboard and tie it down with straps.
  4. Lift the mattress from the knees unless you want to damage your back. In this case, bend your knees and lift the mattress. At the same time, you need to keep the mattress close to your body. Once you are in position, you can easily lift the mattress.
  5. If the mattress is small and light, you might be able to carry it to your vehicle this way. But we suggest two people move so get help from your friend! Make sure the path is transparent so that you don't bump into obstacles on the way.

How to transport a mattress

If you want to know how to transport a mattress, you should know that it’s super easy! All you need is the right vehicle, and you’re good to go. Whether you have a Ute or a car with a luggage rack, you can transport your mattress to your destination.

Although placing a mattress on top of the car seems to be the go-to option for transportation, we recommend you don’t use this method. That’s unless you have a roof rack on your car. The reason is that tying the mattress to your car can warp the window frames or break the door seals. Plus, it may not be very secure.

Once you have secured the mattress to your Ute or car, go for a quick test drive around your neighbourhood. Doing so will allow you to know whether the mattress is, indeed, secured safely or not.

Also, ensure that you avoid taking the motorway when you transport your mattress. As it is, you are bound to be driving slow when you have the mattress on top of your car. So, you want to steer clear of high speeds to avoid any unwanted circumstances.

Lastly, make sure that you make stops regularly and check on the mattress once in a while.

How to transport a mattress without a truck

In case you don’t own a truck, you may wonder whether you can transport your mattress or not. As mentioned above, you don’t have to wonder how to transport a mattress without a truck, because you can with your car or Ute!

The best part is that if your car has the provisional for pulling a trailer, you can always hire a trailer. This way, you will be able to transport the mattress more safely and securely without the constant fear of it toppling down midway!

You can hire professional movers if you want to save time and energy. However, you may end up spending a lot of money when you take help from professionals. So, why not make moving day a fun day and transport your mattress with the help of your friends?

How to tie down a mattress in a truck

Throughout the world, there are different laws when it comes to transporting a mattress on the top of a car. However, you don’t have to worry because, in Australia, it is legal. The catch is that you need to ensure that you secure the mattress well and drive within a speed limit.

Now, if you have a truck, you may want to know how to tie down your mattress correctly for transportation. Well, that’s easy! Once you have covered the mattress with the mattress bag, you can place it flat on the truck’s bed.

Now you can use the rope to tie the mattress firmly by running it all over and then tying it to the rail. After this, you’re good to go!
