What is the best way to freshen a mattress? You've found it! We'll walk you through the steps in simple terms. As well as pointers on how to clean stains and how to keep your mattress fresh

The best way to freshen a mattress is to provide a deep clean. We recommend deep cleaning your mattress every 6-12 months. Because mattresses are frequently used, it's a good idea to adopt a cleaning routine. A consistent routine will help keep your mattress fresh between deep cleans.

Let’s look into deep cleaning and how to make your mattress smell good.

How to Clean and Freshen Your Mattress

You can deep clean your mattress by following these steps:

  1. Remove your sheets and covers and throw them in the wash.
  2. Bring out a vacuum with an upholstery attachment. Work the vacuum steadily to get as much dust as possible. It is good to follow the pattern of your mattress if it has one.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda over your mattress. You can be as generous as you want but make it an even layer. Baking soda can absorb moisture from your mattress, which will help in eliminating the bad odor. So, leave it for 4-5 hours or as long as you can. The longer you leave it, the more moisture it will absorb.
  4. Let the baking soda sit for a few hours, then vacuum the soda. Then, follow the same vacuuming method in Step 2.
  5. Flip your mattress over and repeat all the steps from 1 to 4 to get it clean on both sides.

How to Clean Stains:

To clean stains, use a stain remover like an enzyme-based cleanser or a DIY cleaning solution. For this, combine 40 gms or 3 tbsp of baking soda and 200mls or 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide with a drop or two of liquid detergent/ dish soap. You can use either cleanser for different kinds of stains.

The goal is to clean the stain without getting the mattress too wet. So, dip a cloth into your cleaning solution and then blot the stain with it. Then, get another cloth, dip it in clean water and blot the area clean.

You can clean stains during a deep clean as well. Do it before sprinkling the baking soda.

How to Keep Your Mattress Fresh

Don’t let that deep clean go to waste. Here’s how you keep your mattress fresh:

Get a mattress pad:

Mattress pads are protective covers for your mattresses. They absorb most fluids and make sure the stains do not reach the mattress. Also, you can easily remove, wash and reuse them.

Get the sun on it:

If possible, clean your mattresses outside in the sun. You can also just leave it out to soak in the sun but don't forget to flip it.

Spray with essential oils:

Mix water with a few drops of your favorite oils in a spray bottle. Then spray onto a dry mattress to have your mattress smelling fresh.

Get a dehumidifier:

Mattresses tend to have a bad odor when in damp rooms. Use a dehumidifier to absorb moisture from the air.

Mattresses can last a pretty long time. So, keep them clean to get a fuller use of their life span. In addition, a clean mattress will ensure you feel comfortable and relaxed when you sleep.
